About Rome Ciampino Airport & Transfer Information
Located 15km southeast of Rome, Ciampino airport was first opened in 1916. It used to be Rome’s main airport, handling over 2 million passengers per year, however since the opening of Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino in the 1960s, the airport has been handling almost exclusively charter and executive flights. More recently however, low-cost carriers have turned Ciampino into one of Italy’s busiest and fastest growing airports.
Approximate transfer times to city centre:
There are bus services to Ciampino station and from there, there are trains into the city centre (Termini rail station). The average journey time is 15 minutes.
