24km south of Berlin, Schoenefeld is an international airport generally referred to as a “Holiday Airport", since it has mostly international charter flights. Once the major civil airport of East Germany, Schönefeld (along with Berlin's other major airports) will be transformed to the newly constructed Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport in 2011. After this conversion, up to 50 million passengers could be handled per year at Berlin's main airport.

Approximate transfer times to city centre:

There is an AirportExpress RE7/RB14 train service to Berlin Ost, Alexanderplatz, Hauptbahnhof (main rail station) and Zoo rail stations, with two services per hour between 0631 and 2331.
