| Weather | Austria’s climate can be described as moderate continental. Summers are generally pleasantly warm with cool nights, during the summer months there are often heavy rainfalls, but they are generally short in duration. The average temperature ranges are from 15 up to 35 degrees Celsius (during some days in August). Winters are sunny, with frequent snowfalls; the North-East being the coldest part of the country. Average temperatures in winter are -2 up to +4 degrees Celsius. |

| Accommodation | There are many independent hostels in Austria: you’ll find large city hostels with bars as well as small alpine lodges and chalets located in popular skiing areas.
The Austrian Youth Hostel Association or (OJHW) has got information about a huge number of hostels in various regions around the country. |

| Business Hours | Shops are open from 9am until 6pm (some of them until 9pm, and in busy tourist areas even until 11pm) from Monday to Friday, and until 6pm on Saturdays. Some pharmacies and petrol stations are open for 24 hours. On Sunday, most shops are closed. |

| Visas | People from EU Member States as well as passport holders from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway or Switzerland do not need a visa.
U.S. citizens, Canadians and Australians do not require a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.
All holders of Travel Documents and Certificates of Identity (CID) do require a visa.

| Tipping | In restaurants it is generally 5-10%; tell the waiter how much the bill should be including tip. Lavatory attendants are common and you would generally give them 50 Cent.
Barbers and hairdressers would be 10-15%.
