Introduction
Freiburg lies in the south-western corner of Germany close to the Swiss and French borders. The A5 motorway directly connects the city to Basel in Switzerland and also to German towns and cities further north including Karlsruhe and Frankfurt; just north of Frankfurt the A5 then merges into the A7 motorway.The EuroAirport which officially serves Basel, Mulhouse and Freiburg lies 70km south of Freiburg just outside Basel. There are good international connections from here including those to Paris, Rome and London.
There is an excellent service from the city's main station (Hauptbahnhof) with many InterCityExpress (ICE) connections to cities across Germany and beyond including Berlin (6hrs30m), Hamburg (6hrs30m) and Zurich (2hrs). Aside from the ICE services, there are also good regional and local services to nearby destinations.
