Introduction

Genoa (Genova) is the capital of the Province of Genoa and the whole region of Liguria. Genoa is a hugely important city in the development of the Italy we see today. It is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and was one of the major cities behind the development of Italian football.

Genoa is one of Italy's lesser visited cities, perhaps this is due to the fact that when planning a trip to Italy there are so many places to see that Genoa never quite makes the top 5 list.

There's plenty to do in the city. From walking around exploring the historic sites of the old town (beware the steep climb from the port area!) - to educating yourself in one of the cities museums.

With easy rail access to the city and with its connections to the Italian Riveira we highly recommend that you add it to your top 5.
