Rail Guide to Leer

Introduction

Located close to the border with Holland, Leer has plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. The river Ems offers canoeing as well as cruising, there’s an aquatic park for children and a bowling alley. The local park has a nature trail and a lake; between May and September ferries operate here.

Visitors with an interest in architecture will find structures dating as far back as the 16th century, such as Haneburg Castle, a former stately home which is today used for exhibitions and conferences. The opulent town hall, with marble flooring and a glockenspiel, is a great example of Dutch-German Renaissance design.
