First Great Western

A guide to European Trains

First Great Western trains are used by almost 80 million passengers in the UK each year. The fleet ranges from one carriage ‘153s’ that operate services on shorter distance routes in the West of England, to the High Speed Train (HST) fleet that operates the longer distances on mainline routes.

The entire HST fleet has been refreshed with new environmentally friendly engines, new seating, better lighting and on-board facilities to meet the needs of today’s customer.

They also operate a Night Riviera Sleeper overnight service between Penzance and London allowing you to sleep and arrive comfortably at the destination.

If you're travelling out of London Paddington to the West of England there's a good chance you'll be boarding a Great Western Train. They are generally clean, comfortable and reliable services that we, at European Rail Guide, have used many times.

Peak time trains can get very busy so seat reservations are recommended, peak time trains are also considerably more expensive so don't use them unless you really have to!
