The Aarhus International Jazz Festival was started in 1989 with the aim of adding some excitement to the town’s social calendar for both locals and visitors alike. International stars like Dizzie Gillespie, Gilles Peterson, Nitin Sawney Trio and Ladysmith Black Mambazo have performed over the years, putting the event firmly on the map and making it a must-visit for not just jazz enthusiasts, but fans of World music, blues, pop, rock and funk. A whole host of music venues, cafes and bars take part, and most of them sell tickets on the door meaning you can just turn up on the night. Organizers are also involved in the running of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
