Introduction
Chemnitz lies in central-eastern Germany just 50km from the Czech border. Since the completion of works to the A72 motorway in 2013 which lengthened the road towards Leipzig, there is only a small stretch to finally complete and already the journey time between Chemnitz and Leipzig has been cut to 1 hour. Within 1 hour's drive there are also two international airports namely Leipzig/Halle Airport and Dresden Airport which offer good connections to many major German cities and international hubs.The main station in Chemnitz has been subject to huge investment and redevelopment for 5 years from 2008 and as such is now well equipped to cope with the increased volume of passengers and services that pass through the station. There are comprehensive services to local and regional destinations including Leipzig, Dresden (1hr) and Zwickau (30mins). For InterCity and InterCityExpress services, there are good connections in Leipzig.
