Introduction
Düsseldorf is the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia in the west of the country on the river Elbe. It is very well connected to the German infrastructure system; by road, river, rail and air!Focusing on the rail traveler, the central station is a stop along one of the major InterCityExpress (ICE) routes which travels from Berlin (4hrs 15min) to Cologne (30min) on an hourly basis (and this service also stops at Düsseldorf Airport). There are also comprehensive InterCity services to Luxembourg in the west and Norddeich in the north, each taking approximately 4hrs. Further services serve all the local routes to cities such as Bonn, Cologne, Dortmund and Duisburg.
