The Salzburg Festival is a very popular festival of music and drama held every summer - usually for 5 weeks beginning towards the end of July.

First founded in 1877 it was cancelled during the war years and then revived in 1920 with a performance on the steps of Cathedral Square of Hofmannsthal's Jedermann - a performance that since became tradition at the festival and is now performed every year.
