Before you get carried away, Brasov’s Golden Stag Festival has nothing to do with stag dos of any sort, as it is in fact the name of a pop music festival which has been running since 1968 (although it didn’t take place during Nicolae Ceausescu’s regime, as he thought the event gave the Romanian population too much freedom). The name actually refers to an old fable where a young boy turns into a stag after drinking water. Fairytales aside, the line ups at this festival are a who’s who of pop, with Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Sheryl Crow, James Brown and Pink having all turned up to play. A competition not dissimilar to the Eurovision Song Contest is the main highlight of this four day festival, when 30 singers from around the world compete for the top prize.
