Rail Guide to Neubrandenburg

Introduction

Peaceful Neubrandenburg is the ideal destination for cyclists and lovers of the outdoors. Lake Tollensesee attracts people all year round for windsurfing, sailing, swimming and fishing, and there is a 37 km cycling tour that takes you round the lake and through the surrounding villages of the Mecklenburg region. You can also get panoramic views of the area by climbing up the 111 steps of the Behmshöhe look-out tower.

The old wall that surrounded the city to defend it from attack still stands, this despite the fact that heavy bombing during World War II destroyed most of Neubrandenburg. Built in medieval times, the wall’s four gothic gates remain, the most impressive of which is Stargarder Tor with its sloped roof and red brick façade.
