Shakespeare’s birthplace commemorates the life of the great playwright each year with two weeks of parades, street theatre and music. Even if you don’t know the words to Macbeth off by heart, there’s bound to be something that will interest you. For children there are puppet shows and creative activities like making Yorick masks, while the adults can watch the processions or the live music, which ranges from folk to Latin rhythms (not sure what Shakespeare would have made of the samba). Also part of the festivities is Cervantes Day, as the Spanish writer died on the same day as Shakespeare. Expect flamenco dancing and paella sampling in the streets.
