Stonehenge

One of the most important pre-historic sites in the world, well worth a visit.

The world famous Stonehenge is only a short distance (8 miles) from Salisbury and is well worth the effort of getting there if you're spending part of your trip in the area.

Stonehenge is made up of prehistoric earthworks that surround large standing stones placed in a circular formation. This impressive monument sits at the centre of a number of Bronze Age and Neolithic burial sites.

It is estimated that the stones were erected at the site at around 2500BC, although there are arguments that suggest it was both earlier and later. The sheer scale and mystery of the site are only really appreciated when you visit, you simply can't appreciate it in pictures. Well worth a visit.
