When you think of German Christmas markets what you're probably thinking of is Trier Christmas Market. The setting is stunning at the best of times, but when it's decorated for the Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt) it becomes probably one the most romantic and Christmassy places on earth.

Enjoy a mulled wine (gluhwein) and just wander around soaking up the atmosphere. It's quite possibly the most Christmassy thing you'll ever do.

The Tier Dom (Cathedral) is right next to the market and is also worth a visit.
