It’s all about relaxation in Uelzen, whether it’s bathing in the lake or hiking through the deer park. The town is surrounded by forest; keep your eyes peeled and you might spot wild boars, fallow deer and pheasants, particularly from the top of the observation platform. Olden Sea lake is popular for swimming, fishing and even surfing, plus there’s a man-made beach with a barbecue hut. The Hundertwasser train station, with its castle-like exterior,is visited by many fans of architecture because of its Tudor-style design.

Uelzen’s cultural highlights include regular chamber music concerts and the biannual International Flute Competition.
