Whether you’re an avid hot air balloon enthusiast or just like watching colourful balloons going up in the sky, this quirky festival offers some fantastic views, particularly from the Salzburger Sportwelt resort. This annual festival has a competition that attracts around 50 balloon teams from all over the world, each avidly competing for the prized trophy. Additionally there is a children's day and the spectacular Night of the Balloons, when hundreds of balloons are released from 6 pm onwards with accompanying live music, fireworks and food.

The town's devotion to ballooning has made Filzmoos, situated just south of Salzburg, the hot air balloon capital of the world. Now there’s a bit of dinner party trivia for you!
