Mountain Bike Marathon

Klatovy’s Mountain Bike Marathon is the biggest bike ride in the Czech Republic, but be warned, it’s not for the faint-hearted. The marathon crosses beautiful scenery, taking in the Sumava Mountains, rivers and also the Bavarian Forest, so don’t attempt it if you’re a cycling novice. Winners are awarded modest prizes, and there is a Euro 26 fee to enter the competition.

The Author Král Šumavy (King of the Bohemian Woods) takes place annually, now with 2,500 mountain bikers tackling one of the three distances; 48km, 76km and 104 km.

Getting to Mountain Bike Marathon by train

There is a station in Klatovy which lies just over a kilometre from the start line in the town's market square. The station is on the direct line from Prague (approx 2hr30). It's also on the line to Železná Ruda (approx 1hr) where mountain bikers and walkers are attracted by the beautiful scenery. If you are planning on biking when there, we suggest you take the train for this first stretch as there's a lot of uphill en route!
