The Hamburger DOM is the biggest public festival in northern Germany. It is essentially a fairground with plenty of food offerings and a spectacular fireworks display every Friday night. The event takes place three times a year, in spring, summer and winter, and it lasts for four weeks at a time. The celebration goes back to the 14th century, when entertainment was provided by jugglers and craftsmen. From the afternoon till late in to the night, you can jump on the rides and then feast on waffles, sausages and candied fruit. Almost three million visitors attend throughout the month, so expect to see crowds of people.

Entry to Hamburg DOM is free, and if you go on a Wednesday, visitors can gain special discounts on roller coaster rides and other attractions.
